The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a boarding school in the highlands of Scotland, near the village of Hogsmeade. All scenes set in the school or in the grounds can be found here.

  • Great Hall
    The Great Hall is the main gathering area of the school where students eat meals, sit exams, and hold special events like Sorting, Apparition training, balls, and Duel Club. It is a large hall on the ground floor which usually holds a staff table and four long dining tables for the students.

  • Library
    Located down a narrow corridor on the fourth floor, the library contains tens of thousands of books on thousands of shelves, at least some of which might come in handy. You will need to get special permission from a teacher to borrow books from the Restricted Section. Unless you wait until the library closes at 8pm and sneak in, of course...

    The hospital wing is in the corridor adjacent to the clock tower, on the third floor of the castle.

  • Bathrooms
    You might want to avoid the girls' bathroom on the second floor: Moaning Myrtle likes to haunt it. Really, you should avoid all the common bathrooms if you can, they tend to be full of unflattering graffiti.

  • Other locations in the school
    Grab a snack from the kitchens, admire old awards in the trophy room, practice your magic in spare classrooms, or -- for those in the know -- sneak around using the secret passages.

  • Owlery
    The owlery is a circular stone room in the West Tower of the castle. It's full of straw, owl droppings, the regurgitated skeletons of mice and voles and, of course, owls.

  • School grounds
    Play some quidditch on the pitch, visit the giant squid in the lake, or sneak into the Forbidden Forest. Just be careful you don't get too close to the Whomping Willow!

  • Hallowe'en Ball
    Hogwarts' school ball, held on Sunday the 31st of October, will feature music by The Hobgoblins and (against the wishes of the administration) their opening act, the amateur group Bitches' Brew. All students are welcome to attend, provided they conduct themselves with proper decorum. Dancing lessons will be made available prior to the dance. (So ignorance of proper decorum will not be taken as an excuse, Gryffindors.)
